By some accounts, Venice is one of the most interesting and
lovely places in the world, known for its historic buildings,
and the narrow walkways, and canals that weave through the city.
This sanctuary on a lagoon is virtually the same as it was five
hundred years ago, which adds to its fascinating character,
and romantic charm.
The city which was formed at the mouth of the Po river, developed
in large part based on the emperial ambitions of Pippin III
(king of the Franks), and the Byzantine empire, both of which
tried to control the Venetians.
